Multichannel vs Omnichannel: What's the Difference?

8 min read

The terms get used interchangeably, but they mean different things. Understanding the distinction shapes how you build your outreach strategy.

Multichannel

Using multiple channels—email, LinkedIn, phone, etc. Each channel operates somewhat independently. You might email someone and also connect on LinkedIn, but the experiences aren't necessarily coordinated.

Omnichannel

Integrated experience across channels. If someone opens your email, your LinkedIn message references it. If they engage on LinkedIn, your phone call acknowledges that context. One conversation across multiple touchpoints.

Why It Matters

Multichannel is easier to implement. Omnichannel is more effective. The coordination required for true omnichannel is significant, but response rates improve dramatically when prospects feel like you're paying attention.
